WHAT CAN OUR HOME VISIT CHARTERED PHYSIOTHERAPISTS HELP WITH?
Our home visit physiotherapy service is helpful for patients who might otherwise have difficulty attending the clinic for an appointment, and provides physiotherapy assessment and treatment in the comfort of your own home.
By seeing you in your own home, your physiotherapist will be able to witness the problems that you are experiencing with everyday activities, such as difficulty getting in and out of bed, in and out of chairs, or up and down stairs. A home visit also enables us to help people that lack confidence to walk outside on their own and those that require assistance with everyday activities such as washing and dressing.
During your initial consultation your physiotherapist will start your treatment, and also advise you on walking aids and home adaptations to enable you to regain or retain your independence and increase your quality of life.
Home physiotherapy visits are usually only available within a 10 mile radius of the clinic. Please contact us to discuss your treatment.
WE CAN ASSESS, TREAT AND HELP YOU MANAGE NUMEROUS MEDICAL CONDITIONS DURING A HOME VISIT, INCLUDING:
Dementia and frailty
Exercise can promote mental activity, joint mobility, muscle strength and balance. We can also work with your family members to teach them how to safely move and support you.
Falls
If you have had a fall, a physio can help you improve your muscle strength and balance. Research has shown that if a physio is part of the medical team helping an older person after a fall, the risk of a fall happening again drops by up to 55%.
Fractures
Rehabilitation after broken bones, particularly common ones such as a fractured hip or wrist, is very important to get you back to your normal activities.
Musculoskeletal complaints
We can come to you and can treat lower back pain, neck pain, knee pain, hip pain and pain from other joints, ligaments and muscles.
Osteoporosis
If you suffer from weakened bones, exercise programmes to strengthen the back muscles and encourage weight-bearing and aerobic activities can promote improvements in bone density.
Osteoarthritis and other arthritic conditions
Physios can assess painful joints and give advice on how to maintain joint movement and strength.
Parkinson’s disease or Strokes
Neurological physiotherapy can help you regain or improve independence and arm function, posture, walking and balance through exercise.
FAQs
What happens during a home visit physiotherapy appointment?
The initial home visit appointment with a physio is always an assessment, and some treatment will also be given. This may last up to an hour.
Follow-up appointments are usually around 30 minutes and are made up mainly of treatment. Most people may have three or four follow-up sessions in their course of treatment, but it can be more if they have complex or long-term needs? It depends upon your individual needs.
The physio may also need to see the part of the body that is causing your issue, which means that you may be asked to undress to some degree.
It’s likely that you will be given some exercises to do to help your condition before your follow-up appointment. These will be clearly demonstrated by your physiotherapist and you may be given a sheet to remind you how to do them at home.
