Physiotherapy for the Elderly
Our Vibrant Spirit practice is built upon supporting the elderly and some of the most vulnerable in the community.
Our physiotherapists regularly treat the elderly in their homes, whether it is to help improve their mobility, balance, or to help regain confidence in an older person following a trip or fall.
We know that the elderly are often cared for by their family, and so we work not only to reassure our clients, but to remain in constant contact with their families during course of treatment giving updates following treatment related to their older relatives wellbeing, reporting any issues noted during the visit in the home, for instance maintenance or trip hazards, and also to update the relatives, who may not be local to their elderly family member about how the session went that day for example.
During the initial assessment, our physiotherapists will discuss the short term and the long-term treatment plans so that the client and their relatives can feel completely engaged in and confident with their part to play participating in their exercise, and wellbeing rehabilitation programme at home.

FAQs
What happens during a home visit physiotherapy appointment?
The initial home visit appointment with a physio is always an assessment, and some treatment will also be given. This may last up to an hour.
Follow-up appointments are usually around 30 minutes and are made up mainly of treatment. Most people may have three or four follow-up sessions in their course of treatment, but it can be more if they have complex or long-term needs? It depends upon your individual needs.
The physio may also need to see the part of the body that is causing your issue, which means that you may be asked to undress to some degree.
It’s likely that you will be given some exercises to do to help your condition before your follow-up appointment. These will be clearly demonstrated by your physiotherapist and you may be given a sheet to remind you how to do them at home.
